Trust & Safety

Safety Tips & Guidelines

Your safety is our priority. Learn how to protect yourself as a buyer or seller on NPXORA and build trust through informed decisions.

Important to Know

NPXORA is a connection marketplace that brings buyers and sellers together. We are not a payment intermediary, and transactions occur directly between users. Safety is a shared responsibility between you and your transaction partner.

This page provides essential education to help you develop safe habits and routines. Remember: always prioritize your personal safety over convenience. Trust your instincts, and if something feels wrong, walk away.

General Safety Principles

These principles apply to all users, whether you're buying or selling. Follow them consistently to stay safe.

Always Meet in Public, Well-Lit Locations

Choose high-traffic areas where there are other people around. Avoid isolated or poorly lit locations.

Recommended locations:
  • Shopping centres
  • Petrol stations with CCTV
  • Busy cafés or restaurants
  • Police station car parks
  • Bank branches
  • Public transport hubs

Never Rush a Transaction

Take your time to inspect items, verify details, and feel confident about the transaction. Pressure tactics are a red flag.

Watch out for:
  • Fake urgency ("Selling today only")
  • Pressure to decide immediately
  • Requests to move off-platform quickly
  • Rushing through inspections

Never Share Sensitive Information

Protect your personal and financial information at all times. Legitimate transactions don't require this.

Never share:
  • OTPs (One-Time Passwords)
  • Passwords or login credentials
  • Personal ID details
  • Bank login information
  • Credit card numbers

Trust Your Instincts

If something feels off or uncomfortable, trust that feeling. Your safety is more important than any transaction.

Red flags to watch for:
  • Evasive or unclear answers
  • Reluctance to meet in public
  • Aggressive or rude behaviour
  • Inconsistent stories
  • Requests to hide the transaction

Buyer Safety Guidelines

As a buyer, you have specific responsibilities to protect yourself from fraud and ensure fair transactions.

Inspect Before You Pay

Never send money before inspecting the item in person. Verify that the item matches the listing description, is in the condition described, and functions as advertised.

  • Test all features and functions thoroughly
  • Take photos or videos of the item's condition
  • Ask questions about history, repairs, or issues
  • For vehicles, verify registration and ownership documents

Avoid These Payment Methods

Certain payment methods offer no protection and are commonly used in scams. Avoid them entirely.

Wire Transfers

Cannot be reversed once sent

Gift Cards

No buyer protection; seller can claim non-receipt

Cryptocurrency

Irreversible; no protection for buyers

Deposits to Unknown Sellers

Risk of non-delivery or fraud

Common Buyer Scams to Watch For

Overpayment Scam:

Seller asks you to pay extra and refund the difference. You pay, but the overpayment is fraudulent.

Too Good to Be True Pricing:

Prices significantly below market value are often bait-and-switch scams or stolen goods.

Off-Platform Pressure:

Sellers who immediately ask to move to WhatsApp, email, or other channels may be trying to avoid platform protections.

Fake Verification:

Sellers claiming to be verified or asking you to verify their identity through external links are likely scammers.

Bring Support & Meet During Daylight

Never meet alone. Bring a trusted friend or family member, especially when meeting strangers or buying high-value items.

  • Meet during daylight hours (morning or early afternoon)
  • Bring a friend or family member
  • Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back
  • Keep your phone charged and accessible

Seller Safety Guidelines

As a seller, protect yourself by following secure transaction practices and maintaining control of your assets until payment is confirmed.

Meet in Public, Never at Home

Always meet buyers in public locations. Never invite strangers to your home or business premises.

Safe meeting locations:
  • Police station car parks
  • Shopping centre entrances
  • Bank branches
  • Busy petrol stations with CCTV
  • Public transport hubs

Accept Secure Payment Methods

Use payment methods that are traceable and secure. Avoid cash when possible, and always count carefully if you do accept it.

  • Bank transfers (traceable and reversible if fraud is detected)
  • Mobile payment apps with buyer protection
  • Cash (if you must) — count carefully in a safe location
  • Keep receipts and proof of payment

Never Release Goods Before Payment Clears

Wait for payment to be confirmed and cleared before handing over the item. This protects you from payment fraud.

  • Don't hand over items for cheques that haven't cleared
  • Don't accept promises of payment "later"
  • Don't allow test drives without payment
  • Confirm payment has cleared before releasing goods

Protect Your Privacy

Share only necessary information and keep communication on the platform where possible.

  • Don't share your home address unless absolutely necessary
  • Keep communication on-platform (use NPXORA messaging)
  • Never share personal ID or financial details
  • Keep proof of sale for your records

End Meetings Immediately If...

Your safety comes first. If a buyer shows any of these signs, end the meeting immediately.

  • Aggressive or threatening behaviour
  • Attempts to pressure you into lowering the price significantly
  • Suspicious or evasive behaviour
  • Attempts to inspect the item alone or in private
  • You feel unsafe or uncomfortable for any reason

Safe Meeting Locations

Choosing the right meeting location is critical for your safety. These locations are recommended because they have high visibility, CCTV coverage, and other people present.

Recommended Locations

  • Police Station Car Parks — Official, safe, monitored
  • Shopping Centre Entrances — High foot traffic, CCTV
  • Bank Branches — Professional, secure, monitored
  • Busy Cafés or Restaurants — Witnesses, public setting
  • Petrol Stations with CCTV — Monitored, well-lit
  • Public Transport Hubs — Busy, monitored areas

Locations to Avoid

  • Private Homes — Isolated, no witnesses
  • Empty Car Parks — Isolated, no help nearby
  • Isolated Roads — No witnesses, hard to escape
  • Night-Time in Low-Traffic Areas — Poor visibility, fewer people
  • Alleyways or Side Streets — Isolated, no CCTV
  • Unfamiliar Locations — Scout the area first

Payments & Financial Safety

NPXORA does not hold or guarantee payments. Transactions occur directly between users. Understand your payment options and protect yourself from financial fraud.

Agree on Payment Method Beforehand

Discuss and confirm the payment method before meeting. This prevents misunderstandings and gives both parties time to prepare.

Recommended approach:
  • Confirm payment method in messages on the platform
  • Agree on exact amount and any additional costs
  • Discuss timing (payment before or after inspection)
  • For large amounts, consider bank transfer for traceability

Payment Methods to Avoid

Gift Cards:

No buyer protection; seller can claim non-receipt. Impossible to reverse.

Cryptocurrency:

Transactions are irreversible. No protection for buyers. High risk of fraud.

Wire Transfers:

Cannot be reversed once sent. High risk if seller is fraudulent.

Deposits to Unknown Sellers:

Risk of non-delivery or receiving counterfeit goods.

The Overpayment Scam

This is one of the most common scams. Here's how it works:

1. Scammer asks you to pay more than the agreed amount

2. They claim they'll refund the difference later

3. You pay the full amount

4. The payment is fraudulent or they disappear without refunding

✗ Never pay more than the agreed amount. Ever.

Keep Records

Always keep proof of your transactions. This protects you if disputes arise.

  • Save all messages and communications
  • Take photos of items before and after purchase
  • Keep receipts and payment confirmations
  • For vehicles, keep registration and ownership documents

Online Safety & Scams

Protect yourself from online fraud and phishing attempts. NPXORA will never ask for sensitive information through messages.

Phishing & Fake Emails

Scammers often impersonate NPXORA to steal your credentials. Be cautious of:

  • Emails asking you to "verify your account"
  • Links asking you to confirm payment details
  • Messages requesting passwords or OTPs
  • Suspicious links from "support" or "admin"

✗ NPXORA will never ask for passwords or payment details via email or messages.

Verification Code Requests

Never share your OTP (One-Time Password) or verification codes with anyone, including NPXORA staff.

Remember:
  • NPXORA staff will never ask for your OTP
  • Verification codes are for your account only
  • If someone asks for your OTP, they are trying to access your account
  • Report suspicious requests immediately

Impersonation & Fake Profiles

Scammers create fake profiles to impersonate legitimate sellers or NPXORA staff.

  • Check seller verification status and reviews
  • Look for official NPXORA badges or verification marks
  • Be suspicious of newly created profiles with no reviews
  • Report suspicious profiles immediately

Vehicle Transactions

Buying or selling vehicles requires extra caution. Follow these guidelines to protect yourself from fraud and ensure a safe transaction.

Verify Vehicle Details

Always verify that the vehicle matches the listing and that all documents are legitimate.

  • Check VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) against registration
  • Verify registration documents and ownership
  • Check for outstanding loans or liens
  • Inspect the vehicle for damage or signs of accidents

Test Drive Safety

Never take a test drive alone. Always bring a trusted friend or family member.

  • Bring a friend or family member on test drives
  • Hold the keys during inspection
  • Test all features (brakes, lights, wipers, etc.)
  • Meet near registration offices or police stations

Common Vehicle Scams

Odometer Fraud:

Mileage is rolled back to make the vehicle appear newer. Check service records.

Stolen Vehicles:

Always verify ownership and registration. Check for stolen vehicle alerts.

Accident History Hidden:

Request inspection reports and service history. Look for signs of repairs.

Fake Documents:

Verify all documents with relevant authorities. Don't accept digital copies only.
